Why a Carbon Tax is Good for America: Wayland

  • First Parish in Wayland 225 Boston Post Road Wayland, MA 01778 USA (map)

First Parish Lincoln Green has been working with representatives from the Wayland and Weston Unitarian Universalist congregations, Mass Audubon and a number of other individuals to organize a series of public events on climate change.

The first is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10 at 7:30 pm at the First Parish in Wayland and will feature Dr. Gilbert Metcalf. Dr. Metcalf is one of the country’s leading experts on carbon taxes and author of the recent book Paying for Pollution: why a carbon tax is good for America.

Dr. Metcalf is the John DiBiaggio Professor of Citizenship and Public Service and Professor of Economics at Tufts University. During the Obama Administration he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment and Energy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Carbon taxes (and linked policies that would dividend them back to taxpayers) are one of the most important tools in the climate change toolbox. Bills and policies that would rely on carbon taxes have currently are currently under consideration in both Massachusetts and at the federal level.
